Saturday Strolling on the Canal St. Martin

Now I have the pictures, I can finish the story. The Collishaw-Callard team decided to explore one of the lesser-known byways of Paris, the Canal St Martin. This is an old industrial canal, on the east side of the centre, now mostly used for tourism, both day trippers and boaters passing through. The locks are much like the Rideau Canal but are powered by electricity, not human power. It was a beautiful day and there were many interesting things to look at, including the Hopital St Louis, where Neil's friend Albert Hirsch works.
About halfway down to the Seine, the canal goes underground, and the cover on top of it is a park, making the street very wide and giving people lots of trees, gardens and places to play. There are skylight openings all the way along, so the canal is not in complete darkness, I expect. We'll check that out next time.
We walked as far as Bastille and took the Metro home, where I completed my packing.
Is there an overlap here?........
